How War Affects Odessa’s Environment and Air Quality: Interview with Professor Angelina Chuhai

The impact of military actions on our region’s ecology is a critical challenge that requires continuous attention from scientists and the community. As part of the international project “Interreg – Know What You Breathe: Mobilizing Communities for Air Quality in the Black Sea Basin” (AIRQUEST), Professor Angelina Chuhai, Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection at Odesa I. I. Mechnykov National University, was featured as a guest on the “Interview of the Day” program on the “Pershyi Myskanyi” (First City) TV channel.

During the discussion, she addressed highly urgent and vital issues that concern every resident of our city and region today:

• The state of atmospheric air in Odesa under martial law;
• The impact of military actions and shelling on the region’s natural environment;
• The specific features of ecological monitoring in modern realities;

The Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology at Odesa National University continues to actively study the region’s environmental state, conduct regular air quality monitoring, develop international cooperation in environmental protection, and establish scientifically grounded approaches to preserving our natural environment.
